Open Question: Which Notebook extended warranty should I get?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’m debating on getting a new Laptop. I’m considering either Dell or HP (I get discounts from my employers) The thing is I already have a Dell with a 2 year Accidental damage coverage, first my charger started melting and Dell sent me a new one that arrived the very next day. Now my LCD screen is dead and without question (yet) they are repairing it.

It seems Dell does honor their warranty but an HP Laptop with a warranty is cheaper than a Dell. Now HP pre-installs a lot of crap that I ddon’t really want but my biggest concern is : Has anyone had an experience with an HP extended accidental damage warranty?

Should I get the Dell or HP?

Resolved Question: Do you think Sears would fix my cracked LCD TV?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

I recently cracked my Sony Bravia 32″ LCD TV while moving it for cleaning. It fell and caught the corner of the cabinet it stands on. It will turn on and display part of the picture but there is a very cracked area where the impact occurred. I bought the TV about about 2 years ago from the Sears I used to work at and bought an extended warranty for either 3 or 4 years with it. Do you think Sears will cover it? I’ve heard some horror stories about Sears repairs so I’m worried about whether my extended warranty will cover accidents. I’m still paying on the TV so it would be useless to buy a new one.

Resolved Question: Anyone know about Sale of Goods law…..

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

and my rights in taking back a two year old telly to Currys thats faulty (no sound). Manufacturers warranty was one year, did not take out extended warranty but feel an LCD tv should last more than 23 months. From reading through the 1979 Sale of Goods act (amended 1994) it states goods must be fit for purpose for a reasonable length of time, I do not believe 2 years is a reasonable time for a £500 telly.

Really what I am wanting is the steps to take, I believe they are.

1) Speak to Currys to see what they are going to do about it.
2) If as I suspect is true nothing get an independent tv repairer to do a report on what the problem is.
3) Speak to Currys to get them to do the repair.
4) If Currys refuse get it fixed by independent.
5) Take Currys to small cames court to get reimbursed on court and repair fees.

Any views
Just out of interest have any of the posters taken anyone to court or are trhey just going on what they’ve read. I’ve taken banks to court over charges and won. Two years to win in a small claims court is total rubbish so i’m guessing you haven’t.

Resolved Question: Plasma or HDMI problem?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

I have a Panasonic 50″ plasma tv which is about 2 years old (this model was only exclusive to 1 store) and I have a Monster Cable HDMI connected to tv and an LG Up-Converting DVD player. Now the problem is sometimes when watching a movie on the DVD player the screen goes blank for 2 seconds (happens at any time) and the tv comes off but i can still hear sound from my 5.1 surround sound. Now i got a 80gb Ps3 and connected the same HDMI to it. Now when i play it still does cut off at anytime for 2 seconds but the tv doesn’t come off, it goes black then comes back to where i was. I know its not the ps3’s problem since i had been using it on my lcd monitor for about 2 months and this never happened. This 2 second thing happends every other day or sometimes days. All the other connections (component, svideo etc) on the tv are hooked up, but never gives problems.I bought extended warranty for the tv and it expires in december, so im wondering what I should do.

New detail is, i got top spin 3 for ps3 and played i yesterday for about 4 hours. It worked perfect and then this morning i countinued and it was still good. Now I came home late, about 9pm the same day and loaded the game again. I started playing and realized that the sound didnt sound right, it sounded like the sound was muffled with a slight echo. I went to the main menu and realized the music wasnt playing in the background as it usually does. I restarted the system and everything worked as usual again. This had never happened. I didnt replace the hdmi cable or tv yet, its the same one. PLEASE EXPLAIN IN DETAIL.
Hi thanks, i tried seperating the two but its the same thing. :(

Voting Question: I need the upc# for polaroid FLM-373B upc# from Wal-Mart?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

I purchased a Polaroid lcd tv (model # FLM-373B) with the 2 year extended warranty, and i misplaced the receipt so the manager at Wal-Mart told me to find the upc# for that same tv and they would be able to pull up a copy of the receipt and warranty.
PLEASE HELP!!
Sorry I forgot to mention i threw the box out about a week after i had the tv and now Wal-mart doesn’t have this model number anymore, at stores and online.
