LCD for less than $1200. Recommendations?

Monday, September 29th, 2008
I am in the market for a 1080p LCD for $1200 or less. I’d like to have as big of one as possible, and in that price range, it looks like 47" is about as much as I can hope for.

If lucky, I may find a closeout or two on a Sharp or JVC model, but those are few and far between. The brands in my price range then fall to Insignia (Best Buy brand), Westinghouse, etc. Any opinions on these lesser brands? I am reading better than average customer reviews on the Insignias.

I figure if I would get one of these brands, I would opt for a 2-4 year extended warranty for peace of mind.

Thoughts and/or suggestions? Thanks!

Viewsonic NX2232W Audio/Speakers

Monday, September 29th, 2008
Hi,
I just got this monitor and when I was playing with the options, I somehow got the audio to switch from the monitor’s speakers to my computer speakers. When I switched from PC to TV again, they switched back to the monitor’s speakers! Does anyone know how I can adjust it so that it always uses my computer’s speakers? I would like to use the same speakers for my PC and my TV

Thanks!

Faint line at top of my TV screen?

Monday, September 29th, 2008
I’ve just watched the R2 copy of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" The Beginning and there’s a VERY faint line that runs across the top of my LCD screen about 2 inches from the top.

Does anyone know what’s caused this? It shows up both on my Blu Ray player and my DVD player. I tried another disc after but it’s not there. So that leaves me to believe it’s either on the disc (perhaps something to do with the 1:85?) or my TV.

Does anyone have any idea’s?

Thanks.

Buying a newer Sharp 26" (LC26SB24U or LC-26SB14U) versus the ‘Aquos’ (LC26D43U)

Monday, September 29th, 2008
I will be using this TV in my bedroom for watching DVDs and playing X-box 360. I’ve been researching over the past few days and as many others have stated "I’m not a techie and a bit lost".

I compared picture quality today at Best Buy and to me the Sharp had a better picture. It didn’t shadow out many shades of black like the Samsungs did (they were right next to each other and easy to compare). If I’m missing a huge piece of the puzzle about Samsung please let me know…

I’ve found a few good deals but can’t decide whether it would be better to go with the newer LC26SB24U that is widely available, or the Costco version… or the older but more reviewed and "Aquos" version. They are all about the same price, $530-560 after tax and shipping.

I’m not impressed by the sound (but who is with most TVs) so I will be hooking up a set of computer speakers.

Thank you for the help,
James

Torchmode-vivid/dynamic. Does it

Monday, September 29th, 2008
I saw the Samsung 850 in the store today and WOW! But i checked and it was on Dynamic setting. I know most people say that dynamic is not good for in home viewing. But i like it alot.
My question is if I use dynamic at home will it shorten the life of the samsung 850 lcd?
How about if I use dynamic just for blue ray movies, will that shorten the life of the set. I just love the 3-d look of this set at the store.
Will calibration get me the 3d look if dynamic is not used?

Looking to spend 600-800 on an LCD…

…It would be used primarily for Blu Ray and some PS3/PC gaming. I would prefer something available at best buy ( I have a $100 gift card). 1080p would be nice but not required and realistically not economically feasable.

thanks guys and gals ( I know there must be a few of you) ;)

Insignia Aspect Prob

Monday, September 29th, 2008
Watching new Insignia LCD47HD-09.

The picture on normal is not expanding to 16:9 and staying on 4:3 from his cable Motorola Box.

Is there a way to switch this? I also have an HDMI cable connected and there is no signal from the box to the tv.

Help!

Philips 42PFL7403D/27 Help Removing Picture Grain

Monday, September 29th, 2008
I just purchased a Philips 42PFL7403D/27. I had the cable company here three (3) times to upgrade my wires, connectors and HD box and I still have a grainy image. HD channels are OK, lower channels are very grainy. The cable guy told me it’s because my set (Philips 42PFL7403D/27) is much better than the signal that they are providing and there’s nothing he can do. Does anybody believe this? And if it’s true, can I slow down the TV to work better with the cable. It looked great in the store. Ideas?
