Open Question: Contrast Ratio on HDTVs?

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

So i think i’m finally going to buy a big-screen HDTV. I’ve done some research, and think a 32” is right for me, as they’re a lot cheaper than the larger ones, and i don’t have a lot of space…although i could probably fit a bigger screen. Anyways, i’ve narrowed it down to three choices: the Sony 32” Bravia L Series LCD HDTV (KDL32L4000), the LG 32” LCD HDTV (32LG30), and the Samsung 32” Series 4 LCD HDTV (LN32A450). All of these TVs are in the same pirce range, and all are LCD 720p. The Samsung has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, the LG has a 12,000:1 contrast ratio, but the Sony only has a 2000:1 contrast ratio. I’d be using this TV mainly for Xbox 360 and PS3 gaming, and Blu-Ray/HD-DVD, and Standard Definition DirecTV, and regular DVDs. Which TV, out of the three, has the best contrast ratio? Is a bigger contrast ratio better? There just seems to be such a big difference between the Sony’s contrast ration, and the other two’s. Which contrast ratio is better?

Thanks!!

Open Question: Dual Monitor Question… What video card would be the most beneficial in my instance?

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Ok so I want to set up a dual monitor display in my room…. I have 19inch samsung lcd with the 24 pin dvi slot and standard vga and I just got a 22 inch acer lcd with the 24 pin dvi slot and standard vga. What would be the Ideal video card for this set up… I know my samsung has analog and digital and my acer does to I believe… so to get the best picture would I need to get a video card with 2 DVI imputs? What would be the difference if I got one with 2 VGA imputs (picture quality?)
Also is there anything else my video card should have to stay with modern times like HDMI imput or S Video imput basically now that you know my situation what type of video card would you get… monies no object but I don’t really want to spend more then 100-150 on a vid card since I don’t game to much on my comp.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

Kyle
Also is it just a configuration type of thing last time I tried this I bought a 5 dollar splitter and all it did was display the computer images on both screens but you couldn’t do different things on different monitors it stayed the same. I want my display to be able to multitask for instance play chess on one monitor and use the internet on the other… what extra accessories or configurations do I need to achieve this? I believe when I first tried it was because my vid card currently only has 1 vga imput and I was using a splitter but I just want to be certain when I get this dual imput vid card Im not going to encounter the same problem.

Good hdtv for xbox360 and possibly bluray

Saturday, July 19th, 2008
Hi…I apologize if there are similar threads, but I’d really appreciate advice nonetheless.

I’m looking for an lcd hdtv, 40-46 inches, that would be really good in terms of picture and performance for use with an xbox 360, and maybe bluray if I purchase a player in the future. My budget is around 1200-2200 dollars.

I’ve noticed a lot of praise for the Samsung LN40A650. Is it really the best thing to get in my situation? I’m looking for something that has good quality but will also last long.

Thank you.

Also: Are the samsung LN46A550 and Sony 40s4100 any good for me?
